Reports from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that a lot of citizens are not aware that they can get there birth certificate close to home. They could actually obtain these copies from their own community or simply there own state. Each state contains its own records which are located at Bureau of Vital Statistics or the state Heath Departments. The sate Health Department would be the most common name seen to obtain a replacement birth certificate and other records.
Most of the time, the town or county that you were born in would have a replacement birth certificate however all of them do not. A number of records do go back up until the early 1900s. If you are in your mid-70’s or older, you might be able to find that your town may be the only place that carry’s it.

In some cases the only records was a listing in a family bible, however, where there was a loss in official records of documentation, bible records where accepted.
On many occasions, a lot of people think that a replacement birth certificate is kept at the place they were born, which is there hospital; this is not accurate information to those that are trying to obtain there birth certificate. Hospitals may include a record of your birth however it is less likely for the middle-aged. Hospitals can not issue copies of your birth certificate.
If you can not obtain a replacement birth certificate, talk to your state record center to see how to go about getting one. In most cases, issuing a copy of your certificate needs to be done by the state that you were born in, if you moved from where you were born, it wouldn’t be the current state that you live in. In some states, copies can now be sent to your home either from online or by mail.
