If you were born in New Jersey, the State Department of Health and Senior Services- Bureau of Vital Statistics and Registrations can help you obtain a copy of a lost birth certificate. They can retrieve birth certificates dating back to 1901. Records dating between 1848 through 1900 may be found at the New Jersey Department of State, Division of Archives and Records Management. New Jersey law protects and restricts the release of vital records, which means that they are not public records and cannot be searched online. New Jersey processes all orders through VitalCheck.
